What are they?
They are also referred to as self aligning roller bearings. Spherical roller bearings use rollers that are thinner at the ends and thicker in the middle, with a race that is shaped to accommodate this design. This design gives the bearing the capability of adjusting itself so as to support misaligned loads. They are also suitable for applications that may involve vibration and impact.
Spherical roller bearings have a capacity to support both radial and axial loads in either direction as well as a combination of these two loads. Spherical roller bearings have the highest load carrying capacity as compared to any other type of rolling bearing. Axial loads are supported by thrust spherical roller bearings.

Spherical roller bearings have self alignment as well as anti-impact abilities. They have the ability to support heavy loads and have high axial rigidity.
This bearing has a spherical raceway surface which falls right at the center line of its bore diameter. Due to the self aligning capability, the raceway remains at the center line of its diameter bore even when the shaft bends slightly or slight inclination of the housing.
